While nothing compares to the exhilarating feeling of conquering crags, those trips can be time-consuming, expensive, and even dangerous.
That’s why Pam is here to provide you with a quick guide to the best indoor rock climbing around the world.
Best Indoor Rock Climbing and Bouldering
Bouldering is my preferred method of indoor climbing. It’s an easy way to jump right into climbing without worrying about a lot of equipment and training. Just grab your chalk bag and your shoes and get right to it.
While some indoor rock climbing centers are dedicated to either walls or boulders, some of our favorites spend time perfecting both.
Edinburgh International Climbing Arena is the largest indoor rock climbing center in Europe. In addition to massive rock climbing walls inside the space, which was built inside an old quarry, it has a dedicated area for bouldering. This space holds competitions in both climbing and bouldering, so you know it’s good for either.
Momentum is a series of indoor climbing centers in Salt Lake City that revolutionized the brightly colored climbing routes that are now almost universally utilized around the world.
The largest Momentum location boasts nearly 200 roped climbing routes and over 150 bouldering routes. It’s a must-visit site for whatever climbing you want to do.
Best Bouldering Gyms
As I said, I prefer bouldering, and some of the best gyms are solely dedicated to this climbing art.
Austin Bouldering Project is believed to be the largest bouldering gym in the world. There are over 250 routes in the massive 50,000 square foot space, and routes are changed regularly to keep even the most advanced climbers happy.
9 Degrees is a bouldering gym with three locations in Australia. With routes changed every 9 weeks, you’ll barely have enough time to venture all of the 150+ routes before they’re all brand new and ready to tackle again.
Best Indoor Rock Climbing
If you’re looking to rope up and climb to new heights, look no further than these fantastic gyms from around the country.
Bjoeks Climbing Center in The Netherlands might be one of the most unique climbing gyms because not only does it have fantastic indoor climbing, but it features a massive 120-foot S-shaped outdoor climbing wall dubbed Excalibur. It’s genuinely every adventure seeker’s dream.
Planet Granite is a series of large climbing gyms across the US, and it’s most prominent, and best location is in my hometown of Portland. The gym features hundreds of routes, but the real gem is it’s hydraulically adjustable crack wall.
